Case Study
From design problem to validated wing concept
This individual project developed a high-efficiency wing for an avalanche-search UAV concept. Aerodynamic efficiency mattered because the wing had to support useful flight performance while the wider concept placed practical constraints on the design.
I defined the design problem, developed and compared concepts, then used XFLR5 to investigate aerofoil and wing behaviour. SolidWorks was used to develop the CAD design and identify practical structural and manufacturing considerations before producing a physical model.
I brought the work together in a technical portfolio, explaining how the requirements, aerodynamic analysis, structural considerations, CAD development and physical model related to one another. XFLR5 was part of the design process, rather than the finished answer by itself.
